How to style a flannel dress?

Who doesn’t love cozy flannel pattern in the Fall? But in the same time, we want to wear them without looking dated. So, ladies and gents let me introduce you the star of the show: the flannel dress.

flannel dress

Plaid might seem the easiest pattern to wear; but I’m sorry to be the one breaking it down for you: it is the trickiest to pull off. Of course, in case that you don’t want to look like you just came back from the 2000’s.

A plaid print styled correctly it can look really cool and can give a high fashion, sophisticated vibe.

When comes to flannel shirts, I always choose the oversized ones… just because it’s easier to style them in a way that looks trendy. If they are not giving me a little of that masculine’ish vibe … I just avoid them by any means.

That’s also the reason why I loved this dress in the first place. It is chunky and oversized.

The red and black plaid pattern is the most popular out of all and to be completely honest it is the color combo that I’m not crazy about at all. The way it looks though on this dress doesn’t bother me.

Today, I styled the dress in 2 different ways, but you don’t need to stop there. This dress is one that offers you a plethora of styling options and can be worn in various seasons. It can make the best layering piece over a pair of leather leggings and a biker jacket on your shoulders.

It is a few inches shorter than I expected, but paired with the patent leather ankle booties and a black felt hat I achieved a unique, more low-key sexy look.

I changed up the tune a little bit for the second part from sexy to girlie. Adding the super fun pair of sneakers, a beanie and a jean jacket, same dress looks completely different. More of a casual, fun look perfect for your Fall rendezvous.

Silk dress and combat boots

One of my all time favorite tricks is to mix ultra feminine pieces, like this silk dress with masculine ones, in this case the combat boots.

combat boots

Combat boots are not worn anymore only by punk kids from the 90’s and, their renaissance in popularity have fashionistas styling them in so many different ways.

To be completely honest, I love this boots in every combination possible, but by far my go to look is with an ultra feminine dress.

I alway enjoyed to make this type of fashion contradictions, because I can mix together my girlie side with my tomboy-ish one… which I truly love them equally.

The combination between a summer-ish silk dress and a pair of combat boots it is extremely chic and very sophisticated. If you want to achieve more of a fall look, it is easy to layer it with any type of jacket.

I know that in So Cal it still feels like summer, even if it’s October and Halloween is just around the corner. I felt that this look is perfect for a end of summer fashion inspiration.

If you are not quite ready to give up all the light weight fabrics, so I’m telling you: simply don’t! If you are in the mood to play a little, go outside the norm, do some layering and incorporate them in outfits that are going to keep you warm.

Plaid for fall

Plaid trend started to be the biggest fall fashion trend in 2017. It continued it’s popularity through out the spring season, and here we are… Fall 2018 – plaid everywhere: plaid skirt, pants, blazers, etc. plaid skirt Instead of going away, this trend gain even more popularity and we can definitely talk about this pattern being timeless. With that being said, you can start buying some plaid garments (if you don’t have any already) to add them to your closet. Usually, I love to go for a gray scale when I’m wearing a plaid item, but when I saw this skirt I was immediately attracted by the beige tones. The earthy tones made it the perfect skirt for the fall season. I thought about this outfit as a perfect transitional summer to fall look. If it’s getting a little bit colder you just need to throw a jacket over your shoulders and you are fall ready 🙂 It is also a really versatile skirt. I shot this look while I was on vacation in Romania and when it got colder (around 34F – 2C) I just added some thermal tights, a pair of combat boots, cozy sweater and a leather jacket. You’ve seen in my previous posts, that I really like pleated midi skirts. I find them really flattering and they give you endless options of styling. You can take them from edgy to classy-elegant just by changing of your shoes. A plaid skirt is definitely something that you need to start playing with this fall. Is super trendy and also fun to mix it with different patterns. plaid skirt plaid skirt plaid skirt   plaid skirt plaid skirt   T-shirt: American Eagle Skirt: here Backpack: American Eagle Shoes: Converse Sunglasses: Gucci

My summer jam: floral maxi dress

When I think about hot summer days and long walks on the beach, my jam is for sure a floral maxi dress.

floral maxi dress

You have to love such an easy dress that you just throw it on and look so put together.

Honestly, I was always drawn to maxi dresses, but I never got one, until this summer. I simply did’t fine one before to have the length that I was looking for.

When comes to this particular type of dresses, I like them extra long, even though, I don’t wear them with hells or wedges.

I normally pair a maxi dress with a pair of flat sandals, or some cute slippers.

What I love the most about this floral maxi dress, are the little of the shoulder sleeves. It makes it extra feminine and sexy in the same time.

The buttons, that go all the way down, gives you the opportunity of wearing it in different ways. If you want to show off a little more skin, just unbutton it how much you want and it looks like a dress with a sexy slit.

Of course that being such a feminine dress, I paired it with some edgy booties to change completely the look.

Shooting this outfit in the desert, I felt that the boots were actually completing the look.

I just love everything about this dress: the pattern, the colors, fabric which is really light and of course the off the shoulders sleeves.

How do you like to wear you summer floral maxi dress?

I hope you have an amazing week, my lovelies.

Floral pants: a happy happy joy joy mood

Floral pants are definitely one of those items that you’re going to see me in all summer long.

floral pants

Usually when summer starts, I love wearing dresses, skirts, short, everything but long pants or jeans. Well, that it’s not the case when we are talking about this particular pair of pants.

First, I wanna talk a little about the fabric, so you can understand why they are the perfect pair of pants to wear in the summer. They are super soft and extremely lightweight. Literally they feel like you are not wearing anything which makes them really comfortable too.

What I love the most about this pair of floral palazzo pants , is the cut. The loose cut gives a graceful flare to your figure as you walk, which I find that to be a little sophisticated and ultra feminine.

I’m not a petite girl at all, but this type of pants will accentuate the length of your legs… and to be honest, which girl doesn’t like that?

In my lasts shopping sprees, I ended up buying only items with print or really colorful for the summer of 2018.

Floral print is the one that defines me the most. It always give me a happy happy joy joy mood, but in the same time is very feminine and sweet.

I was in love with the pastel color of the pants the flowers, so in order to keep that the focal point of my outfit, I paired the floral pants with a simple flowy white top.

The pants have a matching crop top, which you’ll probably see in a different post.

Don’t forget: when we talk about warm weather fashion, one thing it is for sure: floral prints will always be in style!

Lingerie as outerwear – trend alert

Wearing your lingerie as outerwear can sound pretty crazy, right? Well, think about it again… We’ve seen this trend around for some years on & off, but lately it has continued to pick up speed.

lingerie trend

For the first time, I tried this trend a couple of years ago when I thought that wearing a lace bralette over a white tee it would be something a little bit out of the ordinary. Oh well… it was. Back then this whole lingerie trend it wasn’t such a big thing, so I got some “weird” looks :))

For today’s post I used a lace bralette as my crop top in my outfit.

I really believe that, wearing a nice piece of lingerie mixed in with some prêt-à-porter items, can look very seductive without being too much.

Even though, exposing your bra might not be too comfortable for many women, I would suggest you to try it… at least once. You can start by adding a semi-sheer blouse over your  favorite bra. It will make you feel more covered and the effect created it will not be as full-frontal.

Like in most of my outfits, I love to mix textures. For this particular look, I couldn’t think of something more appropriate to combine my lace bralette than this silk kimono. The high waisted jeans are cutting a little bit that bedroom/lounge vibe of the outfit and is bringing it into the street style zone.

With the right pieces mixed together, I have to say that I’m really digging this trend. Are you going to try it this summer? I would love to hear what do you think.

Have a gorgeous week,

XoXo, OD!

How to wear the pleated midi skirt with sneakers

It’s hard to believe that you don’t have already a pleated midi skirt. This type of skirt is a staple closet and we’ve seen it around for a while now.

pleated midi skirt

A pleated midi skirt is super easy to wear. You can take it in 2 opposite styling areas: elegant or casual. All depends on what you feel like wearing or where are you going.

When you decide what approach you take for this skirt, the shoes are the ones that are setting the tone of your outfit.

If you want to go for an elegant look, you need just to add a pair of cute high heels and a top.

I usually like to do a more casual styling with this kind of skirt, so I’m going to opt for a pair of fashion sneakers.

Even though is spring, we were getting colder temperatures in LA the last couple of days. So, I find this sweater more than perfect to wear it with my spring-ish skirt.

The volumes, created by this chunky sweater and the skirt it is something that I really enjoy. Call me crazy but I love the loose fitting clothes.

For this outfit, I chose to propose the bag in 2 different ways: as a crossbody bag and as a bag belt. To be honest, I wore it as a belt bag, because it’s the perfect trick to accentuate your waist line.

The fact that I decided to add sneakers to this look it’s no surprise for anyone. I love to mix and match items in order to create unique looks. And this fashion sneakers were the va va voom that my outfit was missing.

Happy hump day, my lovelies!

Floral print shirt: spring mood

In my opinion, the floral print shirt is a must-have in everyone’s dressing for the 2018 spring season.

floral print shirt

Shirts, are for me one of my favorite clothing items, because you can find them in a lot of different styles: from elegant to casual, we can incorporate them in pretty much any outfit.

A super versatile piece, it can be worn by itself in the warmer months, or underneath a blazer, coat, when the weather requires some layering.

It is something about the floral print shirt that outlines your femininity and also gives your outfit a romantic vibe.

For today’s outfit, I paired my satin floral print shirt with a pair of high waisted jeans and a white vest.

I finished up the look with this gorgeous pair of oxfords, that can definitely elevate any look that you need.

Lately, I ended up buying all floral, bold prints pieces that I can’t wait to share them with you.

I think I’m already in all full spring mode ready for summer, baby!

I hope you have an awesome week, my lovelies.

Denim skirt – pencil style

Denim it will never go out of fashion and in this category falls the denim skirt too.

denim skirt

I remember denim skirts being around since I was little and they are a high fashion trend in 2018.

One thing that’s really cool about the denim skirts, is the fact that they are adaptable and practical in the same time. You can dress them up or down and   you can definitely wear them with everything. Any shoes, any accessories… they are the most versatile clothing piece I know (along with the beloved jeans, of course).

The denim skirt is the skirt that you can wear it day to night. By simply changing just the shoes that you wear, you can change the entire look.

I bought recently a few denim skirt, different washes, different styles and the pencil one is my favorite.

I used it in today’s outfit of the day to build a super chic but easy spring outfit. The weather was in the 60’s, so the knitted hoodie kept me warm enough so I didn’t need a jacket.

There is no need to say how much I love wearing socks with my high heels (I wrote a full post on that here). I’m doing it for years but I’ve seen that the combination is strongly back in the fashion game in 2018.

Let me know how do you like to wear your denim skirt in the comment box below. Have an awesome week my lovelies!

Scarf: the most fashionable accessory for 2018

The scarf it is for sure THE accessory for 2018. Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter, depending on the fabric they are present in a lot of stylings.

scarf

It is the most versatile accessory, because you can wear it anywhere: your head, your neck, even on your wrist as a cool bracelet or it can be tied around the handles of your bag.

This little accessory, it can definitely make a bold statement, as the perfect addition when your outfit needs just a little extra touch.

For today’s post, I chose to style the scarf underneath a hat. This styling changed the entire look, because without it, would  have been just a black button down shirt and a pair of leather pants.

What I like the most about this styling is the mysterious vibe created by the mixture of two different styles. The colorful scarves are extremely feminine and the hat just adds a masculine feel to the entire look.

I don’t mind playing with color at all, so when spring it is actually here I can’t wait to play with different colors and patterns scarves and mix them into my outfits.
