Anastasia Beverly Hills – Prism Palette Review

Hello my lovelies,

I didn’t make a beauty post in a while and when I ordered this palette my first though was to make a review for it and share my opinion with you.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Prism,  it’s a holiday limited edition palette. I have to say that I was pretty skeptical at first to order it, after all the Subculture drama this summer, but I decided to give it a try because those metallics were calling my name and to be honest, I have other ABH palettes that I completely love.

Prism (42$) has 14 pans x 0,7g each and it’s another velvet case palette. I have to say that it’s not my favorite type of packaging, because if you don’t take care of them, they can get really dirty.

The 14 shades are designed for holidays and they are a mix of mattes, metallics and duo-chromes.

I have been playing with it for the last 2 weeks and I have formed a solid opinion wether I like this palette or not.

Let’s go into more details about each and every shadow in this palette and I’ll break it in 2 parts:

  1. First row:

(left to right: Lucid, Eden, Unity, Sphinx, Osiris, Sphere, Obsidian)

LUCID: is one of the duo-chrome colors in this palette and it’s a light gold with a hint of pink. It is one of my favorite colors and I have used it in a daytime look by applying just a tiny bit all over the lid and blend it really well. As all the duo-chrome and metallics in this palette, works great if you apply it with your fingertips or a wet brush. (my personal preference is to apply it with my fingertips).

EDEN: it’s a matte coral-ish shade. This was one of the biggest surprises for me, because when I saw it for the first time, i thought that is totally out of my comfort zone. One day I tried it as a transition color in the crease and I loved the way my makeup turned out.

UNITY: It is a neutral matte shade that I use it to set out my eyelid primer or blend out other shades.

SPHINX: It’s a metallic bronzy shade, super pigmented.

OSIRIS: It is a metallic royal blue with some purple sparkle in it and I think it looks gorgeous used in a smokey eye.

SPHERE: It’s a matte neon yellow, that to be honest, I don’t see myself using it.

OBSIDIAN: it is a matte black, but requires some building. I already own “Noir” by ABH which is my all time favorite matte black and it’s way more pigmented than Obsidian. I prefer using that if I need a matte black in my makeup look

Second Row:

(left to right: Dimension, Parallel, Pyramid, Throne, Saturn, Eternal, Lure)

DIMENSION: It’s a duo-chrome and I was really excited to try this siver-lilac shade. I used it all over the lid and it look beautifully. I think is one of the most interesting shades in this palette.

PARALLEL: It is that perfect brown matte, that is super buttery and blends like a dream.

PYRAMID: It’s a super rich, bold metallic yellow gold that will make your Christmas party look to pop.

THRONE: It’s a metallic dark green, I feel it is more of a black with green sparkles in it, but either way it’s stunning. I think I know who will be the star of the show in my New Year’s Eve make look.

SATURN: This beautiful brick shade has a great formula that I found it really easy to work with, but it is also pretty similar with “Realgar” from Modern Renaissance palette.

ETERNAL: Since I got the palette, I reached for this metallic copper shade really often. It’s also true that I have a thing for coppery shades, but it just looks gorgeous in any fall makeup.

LURE: This is one of my go to transition and outer corner shades that I use almost everyday. It is in the same color scheme as “Buon Fresco” from Modern Renaissance, just slightly darker.

As a conclusion I would give it a 8 out of 10, because they are some shades that I would not use (3 out of 14 I think it’s pretty decent in a palette), but also because some of the colors need a little finesse with the application and some knowledge about different finishes and how to work with them.

I’m happy that this palette didn’t disappoint me at all, and not only that but it became one of my favorite palettes I own (and trust me I have “a few”).

I would love to know if you tried this palette or if it’s on your wish list for holidays.

XoXo, OD.

Glen plaid skirt

Hello my lovelies,

It’s not just sweater and knits season, fall is also great to wear some plaid pattern pieces.

The glen plaid is a combination of small and large checks and usually we can find it in muted neutrals (gray, brown, beige and black). The beauty of this color scheme is that it gives you unlimited possibilities for mixing it with other colors.

This print makes me think of fall for sure, but trust me, I couldn’t put on anything more than a skirt and a T-shirt, because October in LA means over 100 degrees F (38C). It has been pretty challenging to come up with great fall outfit ideas, when all I want to wear are super light beach dresses.

Some of you guys, that are actually enjoying the nice October weather, you can also wear this outfit just by throwing a coat or blazer over your shoulder.

Being a pencil skirt with a plaid pattern it will make you think first of an office outfit, so I definitely wanted to take it out of that zone and style it a little different.

I went more for a casual-elegant look, dressed down the skirt by adding the T-shirt, but still kept a little of it’s elegancy with the high heels.

How to wear socks and high heels

Hello lovelies,

In today’s post, I want to talk about how we wear our elegant high heels with socks.

NO! NO! NO! I’m definitely not talking about the tourist “faux pas” socks and sandals :).

Before we knew that almost “everything is allowed” in fashion, (I said ALMOST, because there is a thin line between an outstanding styling and ridiculous) we were wearing socks only with our athletic shoes at the gym, or to do a quick run to the grocery store. Now, that sounds really boring and flat, compared with how much fun you can have when styling your high heels with socks. It is not a new trend at all, but I have a feeling that we’ll start to see it more often again.

I have to say it though, the socks and high heeled sandals are a combination that fashion conservatives tend to stay away from.

It is one of my favorite styling tricks for fall, because I don’t want to wear only boots when the air starts to be a little bit crispy. In my crazy mind, sometimes I think that heeled sandals were invented as an opportunity to show off your socks :))

A really nice contrast is mixing sporty socks (with athletic stripes) and your feminine high heels to bring the whole outfit on the casual side, wearing a pair of lurex or even glitter socks will give a little extra something to the entire outfit.

For this outfit, I chose a pair of thick over the knee socks, that I didn’t pull all the way up, so it will match the volume that I created in the top of my outfit with the chunky casual-elegant hoodie.

How to style: pleated midi leather skirt

Hello lovelies,

If there is an item, that you definitely need to have it ready for the fall season is the pleated midi leather skirt.

I wanna start by telling you, that with this particular item,  you have to pay a little more attention to your height, when you choose your midi skirt length.

A midi skirt can be anywhere from your knee to your calf, but if you are petite, you should choose a midi skirt that will sit above your mid-calf and wear it with high-heels, so you will give the impression of longer legs. If you are tall, my dear, you are lucky because you can wear any length for your midi skirt.

Styling a midi skirt is not that easy, even if it’s such a versatile piece and allows you to create so many different looks, you have to pay attention to the volume that you create. You don’t wanna look like you have been swallowed up by a big ball of fabric. Just know your body and play with proportions.

For today’s post a styled a pleated midi leather skirt in two, totally different ways: for the first styling option, I chose to go with a more of an edgy look, and in the second one, a more feminine, girly-girl look with a twist.

How to wear a kimono with jeans

Hello lovelies,

We see it in the window of every store right now- the trendy kimono. Patterned usually with lots of flowers in bloom, or even palm trees fronds, it is incredibly appealing and you definitely can be temped by the fabulous print, but are we ready to wear it outside?

I told you before that I’m totally digging the pijama trend, which I think is totally stylish, so of course I love the kimono’s but the last thing that we want is to look like we forgot to take off our loungewear robe.

Styling a kimono it is really simple and requires the most basic attire: a T-shirt and some skinny jeans.

If you want to create an outfit using a kimono as your center piece, you should give the entire look the idea of effortless, like the kimono is was thrown on careless. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend trying to match the design, or adding more layers than the jeans and a T-shirt, because your entire look will look over-thought, which is exactly the opposite of an “I didn’t try too much” outfit.

Floral Romper

Hello my lovelies,

I really enjoyed seeing girls wearing rompers, because they are a simple choice that you can`t go wrong with. We find them in all lengths, shapes, fabrics, patterns… girl, you have a big variety to choose from.

I wanted a short romper so, my only problem was that I couldn’t find one to fit me right and not make my feet look like two sticks ( I know they are not far from that, but still).

When I saw this cute romper at Zara, I could’ve bet that it will not work for me…well, I had a big surprise in the fitting room… I loved it. I like the flower pattern and the little ruffles on the shoulders. To run around the city, on a hot Cali summer day, I chose to wear it with a pair of flat sandals, but it will look as gorgeous with a pair of high heels for a night out.

I really hope that I can find more jumpsuits/rompers to fit me, because I enjoy their comfortability and the fact that you can create a sharp outfit with no effort.

If you choose a monochromatic romper you can definitely go heavy with the accessories, but if your romper has an interesting pattern, you will need very little accessorizing and your outfit is ready. Go and rock the day my dear!

Shirt-dress fever

Hello my lovelies,

In this spring-summer preferences, we find up top the shirt-dress: it’s casual, easy to wear and flattering for all the silhouettes.

They are basically a long button-down shirt, slightly oversized, it looks like a basic shirt (their upper half – sleeves and collar, gives them that semi-elegant look) but has the perfect length to be a dress.

When we are talking about styling shirt-dresses, I think that the shoes set the tone of the outfit and also the way you choose to accessorize it, depending the time of the day and the location.

Being a stylistically hybrid, the shirt-dress offers a lot of styling alternatives to the ones ready to go outside their comfort zone and play with it.

How are you wearing yours?

My nighttime skincare routine

Hello my lovelies,

Being a makeup artist for so many years, I must say that skincare is way more important than makeup application. Even the best products in the world, will not look as good and will not perform at their highest, if not applied on a skin that has been taking care of.

In today’s post I will share with you my nighttime skincare routine, so this is basically what I’m doing every single night (no exception) before I’m going to bed.  These are the products, that over the years, I discovered that they work the best for my skin. It will be a long post, so grab a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy!

I would like to say in the beginning that I have combination skin: oily in my T-zone, with enlarged pores on the apples of my cheeks and my forehead. That’s why I introduced in my routine products that are targeting these problems.

First step in my skincare routine is removing my makeup… and this should be the most important thing that you do before you go to bed. Not removing your makeup at night, can create so much damage for your skin that you can’t even imagine (I’m planning on writing a post only about this, soon).

I start by removing my eye makeup using Clinique “Take the day off – for eyes and lips” and after I take a Neutrogena makeup towelette and wipe the day away.

Step 2: To wash my face I’m using Shiseido – “Perfect cleansing oil” together with my Clarisonic brush. Even if you are, or not wearing makeup, it is impetuously needed to wash your face and remove all the dirt and oils before you are moving to the next steps.

Step 3: Toner.

The one that I’m using right now is “Pores no more” by Dr. Brandt and I saw really good results for my enlarged pores.

Step 4: Serums and Acids

My go to serum is The Ordinary “Niacinamide 10% , Zinc 1%” . For those of you, that don’t know anything about Niacinamide, is basically known as a combination of vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid. It’s improving the appearance of enlarged pores, fines lines, dulness, and offers as well multiple benefits for aging skin. After using this for a while, I fell that my skin has more balance and it is not that oily anymore.

After applying the Niacinamide serum, I’m using also from The Ordinary, their “Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%”. This fights texture and keeps blemishes away, being in the same time really gentle on the skin. For me, these two together, have done miracles for my skin.

Step 5: Moisturizer. You can already tell that I love The Ordinary products, so the moisturizer that I’m currently using is also from them. I like it because it is light-weight but really hydrating in the same time, it absorbs quickly and just leaves my skin feeling refreshed.

This is pretty much it, the only thing that I do extra, once or twice a week is applying a mask and right now I enjoy using The Rubber mask by Dr. Jart… You have to try it!

If you have any question about any of the products or my regimen, please write  them in the comment section down below.

Have a magical day!

The perfect pair of pants for this summer

Hello my lovelies,

It’s summer, baby! As you can see, cropped flowy wide-legs pants are on the racks of every store in different silhouettes, colors, lengths, patterns. I think that they are the perfect pair of pants for the summer because they are extremely comfortable and light-weight in the heat.

When I was thinking before at a pair of wide-legs pants, I didn’t believe that I would enjoy wearing this ankle length style. All of my flare pants were, either covering my shoes completely, or just a few inches above my knee (culottes). Now I felt in love with them and I have a lot of fun creating new outfits for different occasions.

It takes no effort to throw them on and their biggest attribute is that provide endless styling options. Add a T-shirt and sneakers (which I did as well) when you are out for a walk or running errands, or a button-down and some high-heels for a summer dinner on a nice patio. It doesn’t matter which way you choose to style them, the look is flattering and really chic.

Denim Skirt

Hello my lovelies,

As you saw from the title, today I want to talk about another denim piece: the skirt.

They`ve been around for a couple of decades, but I feel that the denim skirt trend is booming this summer more than ever.

There are a couple of changes, that have been made to the old denim skirt that we used to know: different lengths, distressed details, acid wash touches, and so on.

What I love the most about these fabulous skirts is their versatility. You don’t need a full set of styling skills in order to create a multitude of looks with your favorite denim skirt… all you need is to let your personality shine through and juggle from that casual-sporty girl, to classic girl or even edgy girl. This piece will make dressing so easily because there is nothing you can’t do with a denim skirt.

For today’s look, I chose to tuck in a basic white tee, some fun sneakers and add my favorite summer accessory: sunflowers!
